Fortnite has become known for its endless stream of crossovers, featuring characters and franchises from across the entertainment world. At this point, it’s hard to imagine what’s left to join the Battle Royale island—especially from the realm of video games. However, Epic Games may still have some surprises in store, with long-rumored appearances from Tekken and Yakuza characters possibly arriving in the upcoming season.
The rumors about these iconic game franchises making their Fortnite debuts come from well-known leaker Shpeshal_Nick. According to Nick, they were shown a list of upcoming crossovers back in February, which included characters from both Yakuza and Tekken. The speculation suggests that these characters could be coming in the next season, especially given the theme of the season and its potential ties to Japanese culture.
Earlier this week, key art for Fortnite's first season of Chapter 6 leaked, revealing that a Baymax skin will continue Fortnite’s collaboration with Disney, while Godzilla is expected to feature in some capacity. Although there was no official mention of Yakuza’s Kiryu or Majima, or any Tekken characters, the upcoming Japanese-inspired season makes it seem like the perfect opportunity for these iconic characters to join the fray.
For those questioning whether Yakuza and Tekken would fit into Fortnite's unique aesthetic, Epic Games has demonstrated time and again that almost anything can be seamlessly integrated into the game. The crossover list is already incredibly diverse, with characters like Predator, Iron Man, Billy the Puppet from Saw, Chun-Li from Street Fighter, Wonder Woman, and even Kratos from God of War, just to name a few. With Fortnite’s expansive roster, it's clear that Epic has the ability to make any character work within their universe.
Additionally, there are current reasons to think a Tekken and Yakuza crossover is more likely than ever. With Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii set to release in February 2025 and Tekken 8 gearing up for its first anniversary, both franchises have active content on the horizon. As we’ve seen with other collaborations, any opportunity for studios to feature their characters in Fortnite is one they’re likely to take, provided the timing is right.
The only major exception to Fortnite's massive crossover appeal has been Nintendo. The company has previously expressed reluctance to allow characters like Mario to join in the action, and talks to feature Samus from Metroid fell through due to concerns over platform exclusivity. While Epic was unwilling to restrict Samus to only Nintendo platforms, this is a rare case where a potential crossover was blocked.
As the new season of Fortnite approaches, fans are eagerly awaiting more details. If the rumors are true, we could soon be seeing Tekken and Yakuza characters on the island, adding even more layers to Fortnite's already diverse and ever-expanding world.
